ADVOCACY

Safe, Legal Access for #UsToo Introduced by Sharon Wright

Life presents many opportunities to meet, interact and know people from a range of backgrounds, experiences, cultures and causes. There are times that we connect on topics and issues that are not only important to us individually, but collectively, becoming the driving force for evolution, shifts and change. Recognizing the gifts that each person brings to the table is a significant part of the process and is critical to the desired outcome(s).

North Carolina, while still a non-legal state for patients and consenting adults to have safe access to Cannabis that contains THC, is a breeding ground for activists and entrepreneurs who seek to challenge antiquated laws that prohibit, penalize and persecute its’ citizens. In this breeding ground, there are many energies that have been known to illuminate light, breathe fire, calm the raging seas or set it off like an atomic bomb. Funny, because all activists communities have these passionate individuals who are invaluable to the process.

Inclusion is also an integral and necessary element to this Cannabis conversation. When one quickly looks at the faces that comprise the photos of activists and business owners in attendance or in decision making roles, especially those that involve financial matters, people of color are not present. If we are present, our role is down played or often times left unacknowledged. Those highly dynamic are active in national groups like Minorities for Medical Marijuana and Minority Cannabis Business Association. They have and will continue to address diversity in the Cannabis industry as it emerges nationally.

There are four beautiful North Carolina women who do amazing work as activists, parents and business owners, and represent several non profit and civic groups proudly on the platform of legalization, pain management, wellness and other topics significant to the Cannabis conversation. These women represent bravery, compassion, ambition, creativity and passion. These are the Colorful Women of North Carolina in the Cannabis legalization movement who are invaluable driving forces for evolution, shifts and change.
