atients Out of Time was co-founded in 1995 by my husband, Al Byrne and myself, Mary Lynn Mathre after a decade of learning about medical cannabis. In 1983, I returned to school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland to earn my Master's degree in Nursing. The War on Drugs was in full swing; drug testing was becoming wide-spread and “marijuana” users were the primary target. Since marijuana was the most commonly used “illicit drug” at the time, I decided to conduct a survey of marijuana users for my thesis: Marijuana Disclosure to Health Care Professionals.

We’re Stronger Together and We Need You

This was a time of “Just Say No” so my primary hurdle was to find marijuana users who would complete the survey. I contacted the national office of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) to see if they would include my survey in their monthly newsletter, The Leaflet. They readily agreed provided that I would inform them of the results. The survey included general demographic questions, questions about their use of marijuana, and questions to determine if they were asked by healthcare professionals about their use of marijuana, whether or not they would admit to use, and if
