PARKINSON'S DISEASE DISEASE

The variations in cannabis allow for a broad spectrum of treatments, but it has what we call in pharmacy "dirty pharmacology." This means that the plant has a diverse effect on the receptors in the body, functioning as an agonist, antagonist, or partial antagonist. This just means that it is really hard to figure out and control exactly how cannabis works in the treatment of PD. Animal models have reveled insight that suggest that CB1 receptor antagonists could prove useful in both parkinsonian symptoms and levodopa induced dyskinesia, whereas CB1 receptor agonists could play a role in reducing levodopa induced dyskinesia. So, both CB1 receptor agonist and antagonist could be valuable in the treatment of PD.
