Using Cannabis To Break
Free From Addiction
By: Heather Schafer
A recent article, by Yahoo News, entitled “No one has ever died from a pot overdose, but the DEA is taking no chances” addresses that both the 2015 and 2017 Drugs of Abuse Resource Guide, put out by the DEA, recognizes that “No deaths from overdose of marijuana have been reported” yet it remains a Schedule 1 drug in the eyes of the federal government. This article reminded me of another recent article, in the New York Times, where my friend Dr. Amanda Reiman points out that opiates, and other addictive drugs, kill people so why not make every effort to find a better way to help them. So I reached out to Dr. Amanda Reiman to discuss the current opioid crisis, alcohol cycle of dependence and how cannabis is being used to help break free from drug dependence.
