BEING A COACHABLE ATHLETE

BY JUAN ROJAS

Hany Rambod , Chris Aceto , George Farah , and Chad Nichols . What do these guys have in common ?
They are known as some of the best bodybuilding coaches in the world .
These guys have helped people like Kai Greene , Jay Cutler , Phil Heath and many more to become legends in this sport .
Coaches in bodybuilding have not always been a common thing though . This sport used to be very individual and only in the mid to late 90 ’ s did coaching start becoming a little bit more mainstream .
Nowadays , it is extremely rare to hear somebody coached themselves for a bodybuilding show whether it is the Olympia level or just a regional show .
In the past , individuals would pay close attention to their body and learn what works well for them and what doesn ’ t . Individuals would work hard on figuring out their own body and would ask for advice and piece together what they felt was best . When that is in place , it is common to have somebody you trust give you a second opinion and give you ideas as to where to go in order to keep improving your physique .
Now we live in an era where the troubleshooting aspect of bodybuilding ( which can actually be seen as the beauty of this journey ) wants to be skipped by the athlete so they hire a coach to take all the guesswork out and they just execute the plan .
