THE PREP-IS-MISERABLE MINDSET
BY LESLEY TIMBOL
Are you motivated ALL the time ? I know I ’ m not .
Regardless of the sport , athletes often find it challenging to train or practice when they just don ’ t feel like it , and yes , that includes bodybuilders .
Let ’ s face it . As bodybuilders , the training we do day in and day out can become monotonous , dull , or consist of aspects of training that we strongly dislike . For me , it ’ s cardio .
So at times we complain about all the cardio we “ have to do ”, even double cardio as well as lengthy posing practices and routine practices with a posing coach . Basically , we complain about the skills or aspects of prep we need to constantly work on to achieve that optimal look on stage .
Now add on reduced carbs and see what happens .
Many bodybuilders in prep will struggle and at times feel miserable in their prep closer to their show . For instance , the thought of another day of fasted cardio , a grueling training session at the gym , practising your quarter turns , mandatory poses , presentation and routine , evening cardio while staying on top of any food prep and trying to stay focused at work day in and day out on low carbs for weeks can create some level of misery .
Then the thoughts creep in . Those tempting thoughts , i . e ., “ I ’ m going to skip practising my posing today and I ’ ll do it tomorrow . Missing 1 day won ’ t hurt .”
This prep-is-miserable mindset is a negative mindset which can have some negative consequences .
Like what you may ask ?
