I said yes began researching on how to prepare for it. I created my diet and tracked all my macros, did cardio twice a day, trained twice a day, and when the day came, my friend backed out and I was determined to win. It was the UFE Spring Bash 2009 and I won first place in the Junior Men’ s Bodybuilding class. That day, I decided that I would pursue this with all of my passion until I made it to the top.
Juan: Explain to me what went through your mind when you heard your name being called out as the overall winner at the Toronto Pro Show Qualifier 2018? Also, how did it feel to compete at your first pro show just a few hours later?
Robin: There was almost too much running through my mind. The thought that dominated was“ We did it.” Because without my beautiful wife-to-be, without my mentor, without my mom, without everyone who supported me along the way,
I would not be where I am today. It was incredible.
Stepping on the pro stage that evening was a dream come true. It was truly an honour to be able to compete as a pro only hours after being awarded my pro card. I had visualized it for months, but I felt excitement beyond what I imagined when it actually happened. It has given me so much motivation. I can’ t wait to get up there again.
Juan: I definitely think that it must have been an amazing feeling seeing with your eyes open the same scenario you had been creating in your mind for years. What do you find are your biggest strengths when it comes to bodybuilding and your biggest weaknesses?
Robin: My biggest strengths would be my mind and my work ethic. I will stop at nothing. No pain or discomfort is too much to stop me from reaching my goals. My biggest weakness would be my tunnel vision because I can easily get so focused on contest prep that nothing else seems as important.
Juan: How do you deal with periods of lower motivation and what do you do to stay strong while still getting the necessary work done to be a champion like yourself?
Robin: I remind myself where I came from and why I started this journey. I started this journey because I fell in love with the process. I love training, I love knowing I am eating the right things, I love the process of building in the offseason, and prepping for contests. I love the stage. I love making posing routines. I love the rush of the stage. I love improving upon my past showings. I love the people you meet in the industry. I love everything about this sport and if I ever feel like my motivation dips, I remind myself of the power of love.
