FIVE MONSTER MOVEMENTS FOR MAXIMUM MUSCLE MASS BY DARREN MEHLING As many of you transition into the off-season phase of your training, almost everyone wants to know how to get bigger. Proper nutrition, sufficient recovery, and intense weight training are all vitally important. In this article, I want to discuss the five exercises that I feel should be the foundation of any hypertrophy phase. Barbell Squat If you want to get bigger, you have to squat. It’s that simple! I’ve heard all of the excuses: “Squats hurt my knees”, “Squats hurt my lower back”, or “My legs are too long to squat”. All of this is BS! Get your ass off of the leg extension machine, have a certified strength & conditioning specialist assess your body mechanics and flexibility, and then help you apply that information to correct your squat form.
