BREAST IMPLANT ILLNESS byJUAN ROJAS

Bodybuilding . The beautiful sport that brings the readers of this article together in one way or another . All of us inside this magazine are passionate about modifying the human body through resistance training , nutrition and supplementation .
For thousands of years , modifying the human body has been a common practice . Even when you look at ancient sculptures from different parts of the world , muscle has been admired . We know through sculptures and paintings that even in ancient times there were very muscular physiques . How do you think that Glykon created the statue of Farnese Hercules back in 216 AD ? It was not just his imagination at work , but clearly there had to be some people muscled enough to becomes models to create such a statue .
This constant pursuit of a fantastic physique is what drives us to go to the gym at 4 in the morning . To do our cardio when we are exhausted . And to say “ no ” when we are offered food that may not be conducive to our goals .
For females in this beautiful journey of improving the aesthetics of their physique , breast augmentation has become a very common practice in the last few decades . It has become very normal to see women of all walks of life seeking to modify their breasts . From average women all the way to fitness competitors . It has become so popular in the fitness industry to have breast augmentation , that sometimes women who do not have it may feel like the minority .
With the popularity of breast implants in today ’ s world , most people have seen it as a harmless procedure with no side effects . But is it truly harmless ?
I had the privilege of chatting with Bella Harrison . She is a beautiful bodybuilder that wanted to have the best version of her physique possible . She decided to get breast augmentation surgery but her experience was not what she was expecting . This is the interview I had with Bella :
Juan : Hi Bella ! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today . Please tell us about what made you start training with weights seriously and what eventually got you into competing .
Bella : Since I was 5 years old , I have always been an athlete . I was enrolled in multiple sports growing up and eventually ended up dating a fellow in high school who would go on to become a national champion in bodybuilding . I started to fall in love with the look and the sport . I used it to build my body and confidence . It also helped me overcome extreme anxiety at a young age .
Juan : Tell me a little bit about your competitive career and what some of your favorite moments were .
Bella : I ’ ve placed in bikini and placed 6th at Provincials ; missing the opportunity to go to Nationals by one spot . I was too muscular for bikini so I came back to figure and won my class at the CPA Winter Naturals in 2019 . It was my favourite moment because it was my comeback story . My friends and family cheered so loud and many of the athletes came out from the curtains back stage to root me on . It was a tearful day but incredibly special to me .
Juan : Wow that sounds like an amazing experience ! Tell us a bit about what made you first want breast implants and how it potentially changed your life at the time mentally .
