Stability ball (make sure to get with air pump
included): I use this for supine leg curls, supine
hip extensions, crunches, leg raises, feet elevated
push ups, wall squats (1 leg or 2; bodyweight
only or added external load via sandbag), reverse
hyperextensions, and various seated variations of
exercises already listed.
The floor: I know this is not an implement, but I
wanted to let you know that there are countless
exercises you can do without any equipment:
various plyometrics like jump squats, jump lunges,
and dynamic push ups; calisthenics like burpees,
jumping jacks, and glute bridges; and gymnastics
movements like handstand push ups, shoulder
stalls, push ups (all forms of 1 handed and 2
handed), L-sits, sit ups, hollow body rocks, and so
on.
No show?
Has your show been postponed? Or cancelled?
No worries... The Canadian Physique Alliance has
MANY shows each season. So if your show has
been impacted, a later show date does not mean
your prep is wasted.
Conclusion:
In such an unusual time like this, we must remind
ourselves that improving our bodies not just helps
us win shows, but even more importantly can
save our lives. Doctors have determined that one
of the risk factors for contracting the COVID-19
virus is obesity. Therefore, by training everyday to
improve your health and physique, you are actually
protecting yourself and improving your chances of
survival. You are literally making yourself a SUPER
HUMAN!
Bottom line - Action Beats Anxiety! So instead of
dwelling on excuses, worrying about the fact that
your show may be postponed or cancelled, I demand
that you make reasons why you are going to come
out of this pandemic STRONGER, SMARTER, and
BETTER!
Darren
Instead, view the extra time you now have as an
opportunity to improve even more. Have you ever
been backstage at a show, looking around at
everyone else, and think to yourself, “Damn, I wish I
would have had a few more weeks”? Well, now you
have them!
No motivation?
If a show is the only reason you train, then I beg you
not to be so myopic. A show is simply one day. It is
simply a celebration of your hard work and a way to
qualify to do more shows at the next level.
Don’t get me wrong - we all want to win on stage,
but when you instead base your motivation on
becoming a better version of yourself, a show then
becomes one of MANY reasons you train so hard.
