Dear Members :
Once again COVID restrictions seem to be in the forefront of all conversation ; however , there have been some hidden positive effects brought about by the pandemic . Personally , being at home for the last 12 months or so , instead of weekend travels to bodybuilding events across Canada and the US , has given me an opportunity to look beyond the fitness community bubble and reconnect with individuals outside our industry more often and for longer periods of time . This has also given me a better perspective of my interests and friendships within the CPA community and appreciate all we have achieved together .
I have had trainers tell me that they encourage their athletes , who have trained for events and been told the competition has been postponed or canceled due to COVID restrictions , to continue to train hard . Competitors who have a passion and are fans of the sport have double down to be in better shape and improved themselves for the competitions that may become available to them . For those of you that may step on stage this year competing for an IFBB Pro League Card , you have already shown your professionalism by maintaining your focus and purpose and thus when achieving that professional status , you have become more than just a rookie pro . A seasoned pro knows the sacrifices needed to maintain that professional status . Overcoming all the pandemic hurdles has made many rookie pros much more knowledgeable and better prepared for a long and successful career in the sport and category they have chosen .
Another positive note on the effects of the pandemic which imposed many restrictions are some changes in the format we implemented . These changes have made it possible to promote and hold events . Some of the creative modifications may continue after the pandemic as they have improved the fluidity and efficiency of the contest schedule and is much more competitor friendly for the athletes without compromising the credibility of the judging . The fans and trainers also find some of the changes positive , making it less expensive and demanding for them also .
We will be coming out of this pandemic stronger and better , although we may not see it now . I am confident we will have conversations on when and why some of the changes were kept and how it improved the competitions and growth of our sport .
We are a resilient team from athletes to promoters , officials , sponsors , volunteers , service providers and fans of the sport . Our perceived weakest link is our strongest link as we are all in this together . Enjoy old and new friends and the journey created by the pandemic . Continue to put your best foot forward to help those in need of support whatever it may be .
