PEOPLE
DEFINE
SUCCESS
DIFFERENTLY.
A situation that many of you face is
that your next show is a long time
away. I know many of you find it so
tough to maintain focus and
motivation over such a long term. The
reason is because your potential
moment of success is so far away and
life has a lot of time to push you off
track.
People who show up at every show
improved have this motivation
problem solved. They are able to stay
positive by focusing on small wins
every day. They give themselves small
attainable objectives, like making their
bed every morning or eating every
meals on their diet as prescribed, to
create a sort of motivational
momentum that helps them go day to
day, positive, and gaining drive all the
way up to their show. In contrast to a
lesser minded person who would fear
a show so far away, the successful
person embraces this time to build
not just their physique but their
motivation to make them a damn near
unstoppable force.
So many competitors mistakenly
define their success only by what they
place at a show. Of course, you train
to win the top prize, but by measuring
your success solely by what the table
of seven judges say on that day, it can
really leave you disappointed. You
don’t know who else is competing or
what the judges are rewarding that
day. There is too much out of your
control to only define your success by
that one indicator.
Successful people in our sport define
success by things they can control.
They are able to sustain a positive
mindset by basing their success on
improvements they’ve made in their
size, conditioning, and presentation.
