Diabetics will know this first hand as they constantly have to monitor their insulin levels and can see how certain foods impact them. As many of us know, anytime other than post workout, in an average person looking to get in better shape, a large insulin spike is not desirable for optimal health and body composition. Fruits are filled with a high amount of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and polyphenols that contribute to improved mental and physical health along with great body composition. Fruits also have a high amount of fiber in them which has a vital role in our gut health. So, why are fruits demonized sometimes? Well, since they are high in sugar, which is a carb, and oftentimes to lose body fat having a lower carb diet is recommended to lose body fat, some people are afraid of them. They have a good reason to be as well, it is very easy to overeat fruit. If you think that you are being healthy because you eat a giant fruit salad for lunch every day, you certainly need to re-evaluate your meal choices. If you want to lose body fat, a caloric deficit is required, which puts us in a place where we have to carefully restrict our carbohydrates. So if you are eating high amounts of grains, starches, root vegetables and add fruits on top of it, you might have trouble losing body fat/weight.
