CANADIAN PHYSIQUE ALLIANCE March Issue | Page 2

MARCH 2019 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Dear Members: The beginning of March for most of Canada is the sign that spring is quickly approaching with the warmer weather and the snow melting. We are starting our prep or we are about to participate at our first competition of the year either as a competitor, judge or trainer. For me it usually starts at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio as a judge. The Arnolds has always been so special, especially when the only one was in Columbus. As the sport continued to grow, so did the demand from other countries to experience the Arnold phenomenon. Now the Arnolds are held in every continent around the world with Pro Qualifiers to give everyone the same opportunity we have experienced in North America for years. The first time I went to Columbus was as a spectating fan, and at that time it was called The Olympia. This was the first year Frank Zane won that competition and went on to win it three years in a row 1977 to 1979. I had the privilege to see Frank win all three years, who would have thought that his presence at that competition was probably the inspiration for the Classic Physique division of today. Not to take away from the classic Arnold poses, Frank Zane’s classic poses are the most recognizable.
