CANADIAN PHYSIQUE ALLIANCE MARCH || ISSUE 32 | Page 63
Countless hours go into competition
preparation. The cardio, weight training, meal
preparation, posing, stretching, active rest.
When show day arrives you may physically feel
you look you're most impressive, however, the
depletion that has normally set in, coupled with
nerves and a potential lack of sleep can lead to
a complexion and face that otherwise looks
tired. So what do you do to look your best on
show day? In my many years of competing I have
experimented with various types of makeup, skin
prep, tanning products, etc., but below you will
find my top tips for looking your personal best on
show day.
Hire a professional –
Unless you are one of those lucky individuals
gifted with the ability to do ‘stage makeup’, then
I highly suggest you hire a professional makeup
artist. Makeup is the final icing on the cake, and
it is so much easier and less stressful if you are
able to have someone else do it for you.
Whether or not it is a trusted friend or a
complete stranger, ensure you bring ‘inspiration’
photos and/or an idea of how you would like to
look, as this will provide clarity for the artist and
they can also point out any big differences
between what you are hoping for versus what
you can achieve (e.g. differences in eye shape,
bone structure, brow shape, etc.). Hiring
someone obviously comes with a cost, but if you
are doing a 12-16 week preparation for
approximately 30 minutes on stage, don’t you
think that final look is worth it?
