I am sure that every one of my readers here has at one time or another experienced the daunting moment where you wake up 5+ lbs heavier after a day of eating a box of cookies right on top of a bag of chips. This jump in weight over a rapid amount of time is not necessarily body fat but has a lot to do with water retention.
