PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE
Dear Members :
I was once told by someone close to me that there ’ s more to life than bodybuilding . Of course , there are many things in life , but for me , bodybuilding and keeping fit are a very large part . That statement caused me to reflect on how the sport of bodybuilding and the role of certain iconic individuals has influenced my life and the lives of so many others .
I would like to first begin with a little history of our sport and the Canada / US bodybuilding relationship . It all started with the visionary efforts of Canadian-born brothers Joe and Ben Weider who in 1946 founded the IFBB . Ben Weider lived in Canada and was known as the world ambassador of the sport . He traveled around the world devoting his life to promoting and growing the sport of bodybuilding . Joe Weider moved to the US where he established the Weider magazine , trained , and mentored the top bodybuilders of the world . Together the Weider brothers showcased a lineage of determination and innovation . From the establishment of the IFBB Pro League to the creation of prestigious competitions like The Olympia , which propelled the careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger , Lou Ferrigno , Larry Scott and many more , the Weider brothers laid the foundation for a global fitness revolution .
As part of the history in the US , Joe & Ben Weider mentored Jim Manion as they saw in him the same passion they had for the sport . They also recognized his leadership abilities and supported him as Chairman of the NPC Amateur Division USA , the largest and most successful amateur division in the world . As the amateur division continued to grow , so did the Olympia and the IFBB Pro League . When controversy entered the IFBB Pro League , Ben Weider seconded Jim to step in and become President of the IFBB Pro League . Jim ’ s loyalty to the Weiders was undeniable when he accepted the challenge without hesitation .
Jim ’ s ascent to leadership under the mentorship of the Weiders exemplifies a seamless continuation of passion and dedication , ensuring the growth and prosperity of bodybuilding into the 21st century . As the torchbearers of the sport pass on their wisdom and guidance to the next generation , the legacy of leadership and mentorship continues to shape the future of bodybuilding . This can be seen by the appointment of Tyler Manion as Vice President .
The reflection on the significance of bodybuilding and the impact Jim Manion had on the sport is truly remarkable . Bodybuilding is viewed as a passion , transcending into a realm of
