In Memoriam
JOHN DOUGLAS
We share this news with a heavy heart .
Earlier this year on February 1st , we were notified by Judi Douglas that her husband John passed away at their home in Waterloo earlier that day .
John was instrumental in helping the CPA grow and succeed . His devotion as Editor of the CPA Newsletter , as videographer and co-photographer at our shows , and his willingness to voluntarily help all of us in any way possible are examples of his character .
On a personal note , I wanted to share a little more about John . He was the Editor of the CPA newsletter which he humbly carried ; however , he was much more than that .
Just a few examples : I was looking to produce a banner for one of my events . Although I just mentioned it to John , without me asking , the following day he resolved the problem by not only advising me on it but literally figuring out the banner size , ordering , paying for it , and saying when it arrives we can take care of it . During our competitions , he would be the go-to guy for any electrical and internet issues and even the look of the stage . Somehow , although not part of his responsibility he felt compelled to help .
On another occasion following a 12-hour day at a contest , after everyone had left , he would quietly be helping Domenic from Muscle Insider take down and pack his stand-up banners . John lived his life on and off the job for others . He was always doing “ little things ” for people whether it was snow blowing their driveway , random messages to people to let them know he was thinking of them , or just sending gifts to loved ones because he felt it would make them smile . His kindness was unmatched .
It was truly in his nature to be in stealth mode , quiet not wanting or expecting any attention . It was his gift , and although many times are taken for granted he never ever complained even when battling cancer .
John and Judi renewed their marriage vows in December 2022 an example of John and Judi ’ s unwavering love for one another .
He loved to build things out of wood from blanket ladders to jewelry boxes for Judi and loved to work on old cars . He was happiest on his motorcycle just riding with no specific destination or on the beaches in Newfoundland ( a province he referred to as home ).
He fought the good battle all the way to the end . His last call to myself was only a week or so before his passing , he thanked me for all we had done for him telling me it was the best years of his life and yet it was the other way around , it was myself wanting to thank him for his friendship and service to the CPA .
We will miss , our friend John . May he be at peace and free from pain .
On behalf of the Canadian Physique Alliance family , we want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Judi and the family . He loved you with his heart and soul
