The survey of 1,003 Canadians , which was commissioned by CTV News , found that two in five Canadians said that their mental health is currently worse than before the pandemic . The survey also found that Canadians reported a 20 per cent increase in alcohol consumption compared to before the pandemic .
According to the survey results , four in 10 Canadians said their mental health is now worse ( 16 per cent ) or somewhat worse ( 24 per cent ) than it was in April during the early stages of the pandemic . At that time , 10 per cent of respondents reported worse and 28 per cent reported somewhat worse mental health .”
As we can see , there has been a big price to pay for many people due to all these closures and restrictions that are imposed on facilities like gyms . If there are this many people suffering from the price we are paying of increased mental health issues , we must be preventing thousands of COVID cases by shutting down the gyms , right ? You be the judge of that . were already imposed on them which maximized protection in the gym . Enhanced sanitation practices , closing certain areas and activities , a cap on the amount of people allowed being inside the building all made the gyms and certain sports facilities safer .
With these heavy restrictions , gym owners have suffered too . Across the country gyms are shutting down day after day due to the costs of rent , utilities and other fixed factors . With heavily reduced , or in some cases no income coming in for a large majority of the past year , unfortunately , these businesses have been struggling to survive . Josh Dawson and Laura Bernadette own a gym in Cambridge , Ontario named Preston Iron Co . It is home to many high-level power lifters and bodybuilders . This is what Josh had to say :

As we can see , the gyms being open seem to be responsible for a very small amount of the actual cases of COVID . When the gyms were not completely shut down , heavy restrictions member ’ s side of things , they no longer have access to a facility to have an active role in their health and wellness . Personally , trying to sustain this in a situation that is completely out of our hands has been the most stressful time in our adult lives so far . Everything we love and worked for could be gone tomorrow and there is nothing we did to cause that . Gyms are not the problem because we constantly clean , social distance , maintain below the allowed number of people , screen every member , and keep a record for contact tracing . Big businesses do not practice this . Plus , the lowest at risk are those who are in good health and maintain it . Gyms are an asset in flattening the curve .” Now , a lot of people who are not gym goers may
