Manitoba : Gyms and fitness facilities are completely shut down .
Quebec : Gyms and fitness facilities are completely shut down .
Nova Scotia : Open but operating at 50 % capacity with other restrictions .
British Columbia : Any high intensity exercise is prohibited . Low intensity exercise and gyms are open with high restrictions and limited capacities .
From this we can see that Ontario , Manitoba and Quebec are the most heavily affected provinces when it comes to the gym closures . Not only is it affecting the gym owners who already struggle in this extremely competitive industry , but the millions of people that go to the gym to focus on their health and wellness .
In the past year , many Canadian ’ s have been affected by mental health issues because of these closures . The following statistic was posted by CTV news :
Alberta : Only one on one personal training sessions are permitted with the major restriction being that instructors must remain within 3 metres of another group .
Saskatchewan : Open with heavy restrictions .
“ Charity group Mental Health Research Canada ( MHRC ) released its latest snapshot of Canadian mental health amid the COVID-19 pandemic . The poll , which was taken between Dec . 10 and Dec . 18 , 2020 , found that 22 per cent of surveyed Canadians reported that they had been diagnosed with depression , with another 20 per cent saying they had received an anxiety disorder diagnosis . Both of those rates are the highest MHRC has measured , and four percentage points higher than before the pandemic . Self-reported feelings of anxiety and depression were also found to be at all-time highs .”
In another article , CTV news also said the following : “ Many Canadians say their mental health is worse than before the COVID-19 pandemic and have reported an increase in alcohol consumption , according to a new survey by Nanos Research .
