“ You don ’ t know what you have until it is gone .”

This is a common phrase that we hear throughout our lives referencing things that we may have taken for granted . It could be a relationship , it could be money , it could be health or for many of us over the last year , perhaps it is our freedoms and our ability to go to a gym .
Anybody reading this magazine holds physical and mental health high on their priority list . For most of us , it is not a fad but instead a lifelong endeavour and lifestyle we have chosen . In this endeavour , physical exercise is crucial to our lives , goals and sanity .
In a country like Canada , winter time can be a difficult time for many . Not as many activities are happening as there are in the summertime , and if you are not someone who is into winter sports , you may find that you get what is known as “ the winter blues .” Not only is the lack of sunlight scientifically shown to affect us negatively , but winter can hold many back from wanting to even leave their home . Oftentimes people find comfort year-round , especially in the winter , by going to a gym or a recreational facility .
For many of us , the gym is a haven , a sacred place of sorts . It is not only the fact that the necessary tools to shape our physiques are there , but it is also the atmosphere . It is the fact that you are going to a place where like-minded people are working on similar goals as yours . Here you get to talk to others about your progress , where you get to see your body transform , where you learn that you have unlimited power and that you ’ re able to achieve things that you never imagined achieving . This is a place where we go daily and sometimes we see the regulars there more than we see our own blood family .
The gym is a place that motivated us to make good life choices to live a healthy life , where many of us improved our health markers . The gym is a place that inspired us to eat healthier in our daily life so we could see even better results . The gym is a place where we were motivated to get better sleep so we could see changes even faster . The gym is a place where we were moved to start taking health supplements because we wanted to have a strong immune system to recover from the hard training .
Most of us can agree that the gym is not only a place that has dramatically improved our mental health , but a place that taught us the importance of taking care of our physical health . Without tip top physical health , we cannot see awesome results in the gym .
Over the past year , many of us have been dramatically impacted by the gym closures happening in Canada . Every province right now has different restrictions . Let ’ s look at them province by province .
As of February 3rd , 2021 , these are the following measures taken :
NWT : Open with restrictions New Brunswick : Open with restrictions . Newfoundland and Labrador : Open with restrictions . P . E . I .: Open with restrictions . Yukon : Open with restrictions . Nunavut : Open with restrictions .
Ontario : Gyms and fitness facilities are completely shut down .
