He competed locally in
bodybuilding shows from
1974 to 1978, becoming an
Overall Champion. Among
his highest
accomplishments, he
became Mr. Canada by
winning 4 Canadian National
Titles in 1978, 1979, 1982
and 1985. Those titles
qualified him to compete at
the World Championships in
Mexico, Belgium, and
Germany to become Mr.
Universe. He was the
Runner-up World Champion
in 1982 in Belgium and
continued his legacy to be
the best in the World. Jean
worked very
hard and was very
successful at what he did,
but he competed in an era
when it was extremely
difficult to attain a Pro
card. That didn’t stop him.
This world-class
bodybuilder joined the
International Federation of
Bodybuilding (IFBB) Pro
ranks in 1994 when he was
awarded his Pro Card by
the infamous Ben Weider.
The numerous trophies
and medals are too big and
too tall to transport from
his mother’s attic from
Dominion Street. They sit
collecting dust and only
the memories remain.
After 46 years of history
and his involvement in the
industry, the Canadian
Physique Alliance
President, Ron Haché
remarks that “It’s an
award that was long
overdue for Jean and for
all his contributions to the
sport of bodybuilding in
Canada and worldwide.”
During his award
presentation, Jean
remarked “I’m very
overwhelmed and
grateful, I’d like to thank
Jim Manion and Ron
Hache for this beautiful
award. I’ve been trying to
get into the NB Sports Hall
of Fame for 17 years now;
however, getting this
National Award
completely fulfills that
dream above and beyond
my expectations.”
