LYING TO YOURSELF ABOUT
THE POST SHOW REBOUND
This is another thing I can't stand listening to and I
hear it all the time. Yes taking advantage of your post
contest rebound for a bodybuilder can be beneficial
to elicit new muscle growth. When planned out and
implemented in a correct manner it can be a great
tool to start your offseason mass program. But what I
see over and over is athletes using this lame excuse
to reach for another donut even though they have
just wiped out the entire stock of Tim Hortons Double
Chocolate timbits in one go. The main takeaway here
is to be honest with yourself. Are you increasing your
carbs by another 150 grams per day from quality
sources like sweet potato and quinoa, or are you just
binging on sugary processed garbage trying to make
yourself feel less guilty about what you are actually
ingesting? Be honest with yourself and self reflect on
what you are actually doing. Lying to yourself is not
the answer. Even though you think it sounds like
good advice in front of your “Gym Bros”, the reality is
when someone knowledgeable hears you they will
take you as another meathead clown who graduated
from Broscience University.
CONCLUSION (UNTIL THE NEXT ISSUE...)
The Post Contest Period is without a doubt one of the most daunting for athletes both
mentally and physically. While trying to recover from the intense dieting and training that
occurred over the last several months, athletes get confused on what should take place in
the coming weeks. By following the above points it will help transition you gently to your
offseason program without committing the blunders that set back your progress that so
many competitive athletes are guilty of. Next month I will cover the last five tips that will
make this period much more enjoyable and help keep you on point to maximize your results
in the upcoming offseason phase.
