Music Tourism Convention Heading to Cape Breton in October
CARAS Names Julie Adam As Its Chair-Elect
JULIE ADAM
Julie Adam has been named chair-elect of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences ( CARAS ).
Adam is currently the president of news and entertainment at Rogers Sports & Media and has served as a board member for The Juno Awards and MusiCounts for the past five years . Her contributions to the board include helping the organization navigate the pandemic and plan for the Junos ’ 50 th anniversary show last year in Toronto . She has also been an adjudicator for MusiCounts ’ scholarship and grant programs where she assisted with the selection of program recipients .
“ My love and respect for music and the artists , along with the creators and industry behind it , is immense ,” says Adam . “ My passion for music is the entire reason I pursued a career in media , and it is an incredible privilege and honour to be part of The Juno Awards and MusiCounts .”

For the first time , Music Cities Events and Sound Diplomacy will be taking the Music Tourism Convention to Canada , with the next edition being held in Cape Breton , NS from Oct . 5-7 , 2022 .

SOCAN Foundation Announces 2022 TD Incubator Participants
The SOCAN Foundation , part of the SOCAN Group of companies , has announced the participants for the fourth edition of the TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship . The incubator program provides emerging music creators with seed funding , mentorship , and the opportunity to participate in a progressive webinar series that will hone their entrepreneurship skills while providing them with the tools and resources needed to turn their talent into a sustainable career . The incubator is made possible through the generous support of TD Ready Commitment . Twenty-five music creators from across Canada were selected .
“ The program is designed to identify , celebrate , and support the next generation of music creators that have demonstrated extraordinary potential ,” says Charlie Wall-Andrews , executive director of SOCAN Foundation .
Each participant in the program will receive a cash grant of up to $ 3,000 , intended to defray startup costs ( such as those spent on marketing , business development , branding , etc .); mentorship by an industry professional ; and access to exclusive webinars led by industry professionals and experts , to fuel the entrepreneurial spirit of the participants .
