BreakOut West Celebrates Its 20 th Anniversary with 4 Days of Music , Learning & More in Calgary

The 20 th annual BreakOut West festival and conference wrapped up on Oct . 2 nd in Calgary after four days of immersive career development and international industry conference programming ; three nights of performances by some of the best artists coming out of Western Canada and abroad ; two events honouring the artistic and industry winners of the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards ; and one celebration of BreakOut West ’ s milestone 20 th anniversary .
In total , over 585 people attended the events , with delegates joining in from 15 different countries . 135 speakers were engaged across 50 conference sessions and over 950 one-on-one meetings , while attendees were able to take part in numerous meet up events and establish business opportunities . Music discovery was celebrated with 66 showcasing artists being featured on stages across Calgary ’ s downtown core and Music Mile .
Additionally , ground-breaking artist and writer , Vivek Shraya , was honoured during BOW ’ s opening reception with Canada ’ s firstever Keychange Inspiration Award . Created by Keychange – a global network and movement working towards gender equality in the music industry – the award honours and celebrates women and gender minorities who have made extraordinary and pioneering contribution to music . The Keychange Inspiration Award is selected by Keychange partners in each of their countries , with Shraya marking the first recipient for Canada .
Looking ahead to the next year , BOW will return to Kelowna , BC , where it was previously celebrated in 2018 and 2010 .

Music NS Launches the Production & Live Engineer Sector Mentorship Program Music Nova Scotia has announced the creation of the Production and Live Engineer Sector Mentorship for supporting live sound engineers , sound techs , studio engineers , producers , and other members of the production sector in Nova Scotia . This program is made possible by the Government of Canada and the Canada Performing Arts Worker Resilience Fund . Applications are open now until Dec . 15 , 2022 .
The Production and Live Engineer Sector Mentorship component supports developmental employment relationships between developing production sector workers and mentors in which a more experienced music industry professional ( mentor ) shares information , skills , or knowledge and standards or best practices that will advance the applicant ’ s career , enhance their education and build their networks .
Music Nova Scotia may provide an investment of 100 % of the total eligible budget to a program maximum of $ 9,000 per applicant . Applicants may submit only one application per deadline .

Dwayne Marcial Marcial from Musik Iz the Motive Entertainment was named Industry Pro of the Year . Fredericton ’ s Broken Record Bar & Music Room is the winner for Venue of the Year and the Larlee Creek Hullabaloo received the award for best festival .
Music PEI Week 2023 Date Change Announced Music PEI has notified its members that Music PEI Week 2023 is being moved to Wednesday , March 8 th through Sunday , March 12 th . It was originally scheduled for March 1-5 , 2023 . The organization apologized for the inconvenience and explained that the reason for the schedule change is that the Canada Games are being held during the original dates , which was causing too many scheduling conflicts .
Music PEI Week is the annual celebration of the province ’ s music industry . The five-day festival recognizes the remarkable achievements of local artists and professionals with shows featuring many of the Music PEI Award nominees and special guests .
