CONNECT Music Licensing & Music Canada CONNECT Music Licensing and Music Canada have released a video series that aims to clearly and succinctly explain key concepts and fundamentals about music royalties in Canada . Entitled Understanding Royalties in the Digital Age , the series aims to help Canadian artist entrepreneurs collect all the royalties they are entitled to .
Made possible by the support of Ontario Creates , the four-part series of short , shareable videos explores the process of licensing , distribution , and generating income from the broadcast and public performance of music . The videos are : The Anatomy of a Song , Public Performance , Digital Distributors , and The Journey of a Song .
The videos are now available on-demand at www . connectmusic . ca / artist-entrepreneur-virtual-resource-centre .
Western Canadian Music Alliance The Western Canadian Music Alliance and BreakOut West have launched a five-week series of concerts , speaking engagements , and digital content from some of the best the western Canadian music industry has to offer . Artists and guest speakers will take to venues across the western provinces and northern territories through the months of October and November . The events kicked off the week of Oct . 25 th in Manitoba and will conclude the week of Nov . 22 nd in British Columbia .
Each week is dedicated to an individual region by highlighting its diverse local artists , industry insiders , and unique music industry landscape , through in-person performances and live panels , as well as digital content , including artist and industry features , and curated playlists . The performances and speakers are being livestreamed via BreakOut West ’ s Facebook page . Live programming in Peguis First Nation and Yellowknife , NWT will be taking place at a future time due to current COVID-19 conditions .
“ I am so incredibly proud of the artists and industry in western Canada , and honoured to continue to support their achievements ,” says Robyn Stewart , executive director of the Western Canadian Music Alliance .
BreakOut West ’ s annual music festival will also be returning to in-person programming in the new year , with showcases taking place in Winnipeg from Feb . 2-6 , 2022 . Acts from all across western Canada will perform at venues throughout the city , along with special international guests . The first-round list of performing artists has been revealed and more performers will be announced in the coming weeks .

FACTOR FACTOR ’ s next Juried Sound Recording program deadline is coming up on Dec . 2 , 2021 . The application window is now open and the organization encourages clients to start working and submitting their applications as soon as possible .
The Juried Sound Recording program
provides grant funding toward the costs of production or acquisition of an original fulllength sound recording and contributes to the marketing and promotion of that sound recording under the Marketing , Tour Support , Showcase , Video , and Radio Marketing components .
FACTOR made some important updates to this program and application writers should carefully review the program guidelines for important information on eligibility . Those who can apply include : artists rated General and 2 ; record labels rated Approved , 2 , 3 , or 4 with an artist rated General or 2 ; and an artist should be able to demonstrate recent market success , engagement , and accelerating momentum in their career . Artists may only apply to the Juried Sound Recording program once within a 12-month period , and an artist may receive a maximum of three grants in the lifetime of the program .
