Dubreq Bowie Stylophone
Dubreq has released the limited-edition Bowie Stylophone . It honours David Bowie ’ s long-time association with the original Stylophone pocket synthesizer , beginning with his 1969 single “ Space Oddity ” that was composed around the Stylophone ’ s unique sound .
The launch is the result of a collaboration between The David Bowie Archive and Dubreq , the British company that makes the instrument . Invented in 1967 , it entered production in 1968 and it consists of a metal keyboard played by touching it with a stylus .
Zildjian 40- & 24-in . Wind Gongs
The Avedis Zildjian Company has released two sizes of its new Wind Gongs .
Wind Gongs are traditional Chinese instruments for use in symphony orchestras , chamber ensembles , drum corps , and in meditative and ceremonial settings . Flat in profile with no rim , wind gongs are thin and extremely responsive , producing characteristically shimmering tones across a wide dynamic range . When struck softly , the wind gong resonates with a low drone , and can crescendo to deliver sounds that are sharp , explosive , bright , and splashy .
The new Zildjian Wind Gongs are available in 40-in . and 24-in . sizes . The 40-in . Wind Gong has a low pitch and the potential for power and projection , while the 24-in . Wind Gong offers a high fundamental pitch and an intimate sound . Both sizes are available in two versions , the first featuring a black Zildjian logo on the front and back of the gong , the second features a small Zildjian logo etched into the front of the gong and a small black logo printed on the back . Both models come with a black hanging rope .
Epiphone Joe Bonamassa Lazarus 1959 Les Paul Standard
Epiphone has introduced the Joe Bonamassa Lazarus 1959 Les Paul Standard . As the ninth signature guitar from one of the pre-eminent blues guitarists of his generation , Bonamassa and Epiphone collaborated to bring to life the Lazarus guitar , which was based off one of his most rare finds , a 1959 Les Paul Standard that needed a full restoration .
As the story goes , a red , dinged-up Les Paul was brought to Bonamassa ’ s table at Barone ’ s in Hollywood , which in turn launched an impromptu investigation into the true origin of the guitar in question . Kim LaFleur of Historic Makeovers confirmed his suspicions that the guitar was indeed a 1959 Les Paul Standard , which he then had fully restored . The Joe Bonamassa Lazarus 1959 Les Paul Standard is the first Epiphone model to include a onepiece mahogany neck . The Lazarus also features a mahogany body with a maple cap that is topped with a wide-grain AAAA flame maple veneer . The sweet tone comes from some of Bonamassa ’ s favourite pickups ; Gibson BurstBuckers paired with ‘ 50s-style wiring and CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors . The Lazarus comes with a vintage-style case sporting Bonamassa graphics and a certificate of authenticity .
