CIMA Releases Study of Canadian Indie Music in
Latin American Market
The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) has released a new report entitled A Continent
of Opportunities: Canadian Independent Music in the Latin American Market, which was funded by The
Department of Canadian Heritage. The report explores the most profitable and structured market
opportunities across Latin and South America for Canadian independent artists, with key information
on genres that chart, festivals, and music companies in each market.
The study revealed that Latin America as a whole, for the fifth consecutive year, had the highest
level of growth in recorded music revenues. Digital revenues in Latin America rose 44.5 per cent, while
streaming revenue increased by 80.4 per cent.

Nielsen Q3 Results Show 80% Rise in On-Demand
Music Streaming
Nielsen Music Canada released its Q3 numbers for the nine-month period ending Sept. 28, 2017,
which show that on-demand streaming continues to climb rapidly.
Weekly on-demand audio streams surpassed 800 million for the first time ever during the
week ending Sept. 14, 2017. On-demand audio streams peaked at 852 million during the week
ending Sept. 28, 2017 and have reached 27.6 billion so far in 2017, up from 15.4 billion a year ago.
This 79.7 per cent year-over-year increase in on-demand audio streaming has helped alleviate a
17 per cent decrease in album sales and 19 per cent decrease in digital track sales.
