‘ Guitar Workshop Plus ’ Intensive Musician Camps Return This Summer Guitar Workshop Plus ( GWP ) is back for its 20 th year with intensive weeklong musician camps this summer in Toronto , San Diego , Seattle , and Nashville . The Canada-based company opened registration and announced its 2022 guest instructor line-up , classes , seminars , dates , locations , and some limited-time scholarship opportunities .
Designed for aspiring musicians of all ages , including for adult hobbyists , students pursuing music careers , and semi-professional and professional musicians , the program offers a unique setting for intense musical and personal growth . As well , this program allows for group development ( entire bands can attend ) and the family experiences . GWP provides students with the opportunity to study multiple styles , courses , and levels with leading musicians . Courses specialize in many styles , including blues , jazz , rock , acoustic , and classical . The intensive bass , drum , keyboard , vocal , and songwriting courses cover many styles and afford students with many rhythm section and ensemble performance opportunities . Each day consists of morning and afternoon classes that involve a hands-on approach , late afternoon clinics ( songwriting , improvisation , vocal , etc .), ensemble performances , and evening concerts .
At the Toronto session , guest artists will include Canadian modern acoustic and fingerstyle player Antoine Dufour and jazz virtuoso Mark Whitfield . The Toronto session will be held from July 24-29 at the Kingbridge Conference Centre . The American sessions will be in San Diego , CA ( June 19-24 ), Seattle , WA ( July 18-23 ), and Nashville , TN ( July 24 – 29 ).

SING ! Vocal Arts Festival to Return with In-Person & Virtual Events SING ! The Toronto International Vocal Arts Festival marks its 11 th year with a return to both in-person and virtual events from May 26 to June 5 , 2022 . The full schedule , tickets and festival passes are available .
Canada ’ s largest a cappella festival includes 60 free and ticketed performances and workshops , which cross cultural , demographic , and musical styles from around the globe . Events will take place in various downtown Toronto venues , with some virtual livestream options available .
This year ’ s festival spans music , film , art theatre , and education . Highlights include : the SING ! Aca-Film Festival , featuring a trilogy of short films that explore stories of resilience across artistic genres , all with original a cappella scores ; the SING ! School Workshops with Rik Emmett ; SING ! in the Clubs : Art Battle , which pairs “ competitive painting ” with live performances by Brez , Efaybee , and Alexinho ; and SING ! in Concert : Celebrating the Musical , a tribute to Broadway . Among the concerts taking place is a performance by 10-time Grammy-winning vocal group Take 6 .

Details Announced for June ’ s ‘ Global Toronto ’ Online & In-Person Music Conference & Showcase
Small World Music ( SWM ) has announced the details for its annual Global Toronto conference , held online from June 20-22 , with pre-conference activities being held in Toronto in-person from June 7-10 , including a diverse selection of international and cross-country delegates . Global Toronto is a music showcase and conference rooted “ in re-imagining a sustainable , equitable , and accessible future for the music sector , and a platform to create connections and professional contacts , while building community and creating a space to discuss and make change .”
The in-person conference will provide an opportunity to experience a range of showcases , and network amongst delegates through a variety of informal gatherings . From June 20-22 , panels , keynote addresses , organizational and regional spotlights , workshops , and conversations will take place online on the Minode ’ e ( the Anishinaabe word for “ good-hearted ”) platform , which was created with Small World Music ’ s partner , IIMS . The online element includes broadcasts of edited versions of the showcases alongside the probing conversations for which GT is known .

Allison Russell & Cédric Dind- Lavoie Lead the Way at 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards
Over the course of two night in early April , the Canadian Folk Music Awards were presented in Charlottetown , PE .
Montreal-based singer-songwriter , multi-instrumentalist , poet , and activist Allison Russell stands out as one of two artists to receive three awards , including New / Emerging Artist of the Year , English Songwriter of the Year , and Contemporary Album of the Year for her LP , Outside Child .
Composer and multi-instrumentalist Cédric Dind-Lavoie also took home three awards for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year , Producer of the Year , and he had the special distinction of receiving the Oliver Schroer Pushing the Boundaries Award for his album Archives .
The 2022 CFMA for Solo Artist of the Year went to PEI-based musician Alicia Toner for her album Joan . The Award for Contemporary Singer of the Year was awarded
