Toronto & MusiCounts Launch Education Video Series for Aspiring Music Industry Professionals
The City of Toronto and MusiCounts have partnered on the launch of new learning resources for young aspiring music industry professionals . MusiCounts Learn TRACK : Industry Insights is a series of free videos that provide emerging artists and music industry professionals with key information about how to get started in the music industry .
These new resources are an expansion of the existing MusiCounts Learn TRACK Program , supported by RBC , which is an online learning hub aimed at introducing high school students to the array of career possibilities in the Canadian music industry . TRACK : Industry Insights expands on that by focusing on topics geared towards artist and music business entrepreneurship . The video content features speakers with real-world experience in building careers in the music industry as artists , event producers , licensing professionals , publishers , and more .

Warner Music Group ( WMG ) will be moving its Canadian businesses to The Well , a newly-built space in downtown Toronto . The new office will benefit from a performance space and recording studio , as well as dedicated songwriting rooms and content creation workrooms . Employees from Warner Music Canada , music publisher Warner Chappell Music Canada , and predictive A & R and marketing intelligence platform Sodatone will be moving into the new space in March of 2023 .
NWC Appoints Manus Hopkins as New Assistant Editor
Jim Norris , president of NWC , has announced the appointment of Manus Hopkins as assistant editor . NWC is the publisher of Canadian Musician , Canadian Music Trade , Professional Sound , and Professional Lighting & Production magazines , along with the Canadian Musician Podcast .
Originally from Whitehorse , YT , Hopkins is a graduate of Ryerson University ’ s journalism
MANUS HOPKINS program ( since renamed Toronto Metropolitan University ) and is based in Toronto . He has worked as a freelance writer with a particular focus on the arts , and is an accomplished guitarist and audio engineer . He has previously written for Canadian Musician as a freelance writer , and also for Exclaim !.
Hopkins will be working with Editor-In-Chief Michael Raine on editorial content for all four magazines and NWC ’ s online channels .

CMW Returning In-Person with Crown Lands , Merck Mercuriadis & More
Being held at a new conference venue this year ( the Intercontinental Toronto Centre ), Canadian Music Week 2022 will host the Radio Active Conference from June 7-8 , with the International Music Summit from June 8-10 , while showcase concerts will be held in venues around downtown Toronto from June 6-11 . Popular prog-rock duo Crown Lands will headline the opening party at The Phoenix on June 7 th .
Now in its 40 th year , the CMW conference will cover all sectors of the industry . Among the high-profile speakers is Merck Mercuriadis , the founder and CEO of Hipgnosis Songs , which has made global headlines for spending billions of dollars in recent years by buying up the rights to song catalogs . As well , there will be additional panel discussions on the business of song rights , songwriting , licensing music , music supervision , recording , music publishing , and more .
The various award shows taking place as part of CMW include the Live Music Industry Awards on June 10th , and the Canadian Independent Music Awards , known as “ The Indies ,” on June 11 th , with both events being held at the El Mocambo .
