Fund . All applicants must be Canadian / Canadian-owned and must support the career development of Canadian artists and / or offer musical programming by Canadian artists . Those eligible to apply include artistentrepreneurs , artist managers , booking agents , concert promoters , music venues , and music festivals .
Applicants may apply only once during the fiscal year ( 2021-22 ) until March 1 , 2022 . The maximum request is $ 100,000 per eligible applicant for one or multiple projects .

Western Canadian Music Alliance The Western Canadian Music Alliance ( WCMA ) has announced that the next BreakOut West festival and conference , which was previously scheduled for this fall , has been moved to Feb . 2-6 , 2022 , in Winnipeg .
The winners of the Western Canadian Music Awards will be announced this October , with nominee info to be released soon . Registration and showcase submissions for the 2022 BreakOut West Festival are open now and the deadline for submissions is June 10 th . Submissions for the festival are open to artists from all western provinces and territories , as well as Nunavut .
“ While we enjoyed bringing BreakOut West Home Edition to musicians , industry , and fans remotely in 2020 , we are missing everyone ’ s faces and have made this decision to move the live event ,” says BreakOut West Executive Director , Robyn Stewart . “ We believe , to the best of our predictions , that this will allow us to safely come together to celebrate , develop , and discover live music again . We look forward to everyone joining us in February 2022 .”

Music BC / Creative BC After much lobbying led by Music BC , the British Columbia government announced a renewed investment of $ 22.5 million over three years for the Amplify BC funding programs to support the recovery and growth of the province ’ s music industry .
Creative BC will continue to adapt Amplify BC ’ s programs each year to meet the needs of the music industry as part of B . C .’ s economic recovery . Amplify BC programs will deliver funding through four streams serving B . C . artists , live music presenters , music companies , and the development of the music industry .
The B . C . government established Amplify BC in 2018 and continues to launch programs each year after consultations with the music industry . Creative BC also has established partnerships with Music BC and the First Peoples ’ Cultural Council to support the development of B . C .’ s music industry . Amplify BC 2021-22 programs and funding deadlines will be announced in summer 2021 .

Folk Music Ontario Folk Music Ontario has announced that its 2021 award and online showcasing applications are now open . Those who applied for a showcase at FMO ’ s cancelled 2020 conference can choose to move their application to 2021 . They will still need to apply , but there will be no registration application fee as long as they ’ re applying with the same material . The application deadline is May 31 , 2021 .
FMO Award applications are online only , and this year ’ s awards and bursaries are : the Songs From the Heart Awards , which present songwriters in five genre / style categories with $ 500 prizes ; the Colleen Peterson Award , which is given to an emerging Ontario singer / songwriter in the genres of roots , traditional , folk , and country music and includes a $ 1,000 prize ; the Recording Artist of the Year , which includes a $ 1,000 prize ; the Setting the Stage Award , which honours a club , venue , or festival for its outstanding contributions to Canada ’ s live music industry ; the Estelle Klein Award , which honours an individual or group that has made significant contributions to Ontario ’ s folk music community ; and the Taylor Mitchell Bursary , which supports one participant in the Performer Stream of the Developing Artist Program who might otherwise be prevented from taking part .

Music PEI On March 28 th , Music PEI held its annual awards party , with Catherine MacLellan and Dylan Menzie leading the way as 31 awards were handed out at the PEI Convention Centre . As all things over the past 12 months , it was a much different affair than previous years with social distancing being the rule of the day . After previously rescheduling the event from earlier in March , the final day of the Credit Union Music PEI Week featured the awards and the Festival Finale .
Catherine MacLellan took home the Solo Recording , Song of the Year ( with Tara Mac- Lean ), and Contemporary Roots Recording of the Year honours . Dylan Menzie received SOCAN Songwriter of the Year , Entertainer of the Year , and tied with Lawrence Maxwell for Album Art of the Year awards . Album of the Year was given to Rachel Beck ’ s Stronger Than You Know .
