JukeJoint Foundation Launches to Empower Women of Colour in the Music Business
Janishia Jones , a music industry executive and entrepreneur , founded JukeJoint Foundation with a clear mission : to celebrate and support women of color working in the music business . The organization is dedicated to promoting greater inclusion of women of color in the industry and advancing equity in decision-making processes . The current board members of JukeJoint Foundation - including Candace Newman , CEO of Live Out L ! ve ; Britnee Foreman , Head of Data Strategy at Exceleration Music ; Katrina Lee , Operations Manager at Jammcard ; and Daphnee Pierre , Head of Finance at Mass Appeal - bring with them extensive experience in the nonprofit sector , particularly in the areas of youth development , women ’ s empowerment , and supporting music industry professionals .
JukeJoint Foundation aims to revolutionize the music industry by removing the barriers that prevent marginalized groups from succeeding . Beyond raising cultural awareness and sensitivities - they are working to tackle the practical challenges that limit the professional potential of women of color .
JukeJoint Foundation will help women of color forge key professional connections via access to music industry events , scholarships to assist student members in repaying student loan debt , and grants to aid in the launch of their own music businesses . Michael Bublé , Drake Among Canadian Grammy Winners

A handful of Canadians were recognized for their musical accomplishments at the 65 th annual Grammy Awards , on February 5 .
The Burnaby , B . C . -born Michael Bublé took home the Grammy for best traditional pop vocal album for his newest effort , Higher , while Toronto rapper Drake picked up the award for best melodic rap performance for his feature on Future ’ s Wait for U .
Montreal conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin went home with two awards — one for best opera recording for Blanchard : Fire Shut Up In My Bones , and another for best classical solo vocal album for Voice Of Nature — The Anthropocene . Vancouver jazz artist Kris Davis and Matthew Stevens , another Canadian , were also recognized for best jazz instrumental album .
Bachman-Turner Overdrive Drummer Robbie Bachman has Died
Founding Bachman-Turner Overdrive drummer Robbie Bachman passed away on Jan . 12 , 2023 . The news was shared by Bachman ’ s brother , Bachman-Turner Overdrive guitarist and vocalist Randy Bachman on Twitter .

ROBBIE BACHMAN wrote Randy Bachman . “ The pounding beat behind BTO , my little brother Robbie has joined Mum , Dad & brother Gary on the other side .” Robbie Bachman was 69 years old . No cause of death has been revealed . The world-renowned drummer was born in Winnipeg and played alongside his brothers Randy and TIm , as well as bassist and vocalist Fred Turner in Bachman-Turner Overdrive . Formed in 1973 , the band was one of Canada ’ s most successful acts of the ‘ 70s , with hits including “ Takin ’ Care of Business ” and “ You Ain ’ t Seen Nothing Yet .”
