NXNE 2022 Accepting Artist Submissions ; Eliminates Application Fee
After two cancelled editions because of the pandemic , the North by Northeast music festival is returning to Toronto music venues from June 14-19 , 2022 . As part of its commitment to inclusion and diversity , NXNE is eliminating all charges to apply to play and all artists will be paid to perform . Artist applications are now being accepted .
NXNE is a discovery music festival focusing on promoting emerging musicians , supporting Toronto ’ s live music venues , and connecting audiences with new acts . The festival is again soliciting emerging artists from across Canada and around the world with an emphasis on promoting Canadian talent .

Charlotte Cardin Leads the Pack as 2022 Juno Awards Nominees Revealed
The nominees for the 51 st Juno Awards were announced on March 1 st by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences ( CARAS ). This year ’ s winners will be revealed during the closing weekend of Juno Week , at The Juno Opening Night Awards on May 14 th and The Juno Awards Broadcast on May 15 th .
Singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin leads all artists with six nominations including : Juno Fan
Choice and Single , Album , Artist , Pop Album , and Music Video of the Year . Justin Bieber and The Weeknd follow with five nominations each , including both vying with Cardin for Juno Fan Choice as well as Single and Artist of the Year .
First-time nominees recognized with four nominations each include Vancouver pop songstress JESSIA ( Juno Fan Choice and Single , Breakthrough Artist , and Pop Album of the Year ) and rising rapper Pressa ( Juno Fan Choice , Breakthrough Artist , Rap Album / EP , and Rap Single of the Year ). Multi-platinum pop singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes also has four nominations for Juno Fan Choice , Album , Artist , and Pop Album of the Year .
Artists with three nominations include world renowned vocalist , producer , and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Day Wilson ; and conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin . A collection of first-time nominees with two nominations include 347aidan , Allison Russell , Black Pistol Fire , Mustafa , NorthSideBenji , and husband-wife metal duo Spiritbox .
This year , the previous Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year category has been split into two awards : Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year and Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year . As well , Rap Recording of the Year has been broken into two categories : Rap Single of the Year and Rap Album / EP of the Year . A completely new category added this year is Underground Dance Single of the Year .

The Weeknd ’ s “ Save Your Tears ” Named Biggest Digital Single of 2021
IFPI , the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide , has announced that the song “ Save Your Tears ” by Canadian R & B star The Weeknd is the winner of its 2021 Global Digital Single Award . The Weeknd is the first artist to win the Global Digital Single Award two years in a row , after receiving it last year for “ Blinding Lights .” The award is presented to the world ’ s best-selling single of the year across all digital formats – including paid subscription streaming , ad-supported platforms , and single-track downloads and streams .
“ Save Your Tears ” was the fourth single to be released from The Weeknd ’ s 2020 album After Hours . The track topped charts around the world and , helped by the release of a remixed version featuring Ariana Grande , reached number one in the U . S . in May 2021 . Overall , the song has been certified platinum in 14 markets , spanning three continents .
The song “ Peaches ” by Canadians Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar made the IFPI ’ s top-10 ranking for 2021 , coming in at number six .
On the IFPI ’ s list of the biggest artists of 2021 , Drake , The Weeknd , and Justin Bieber ranked fourth , sixth , and eighth , respectively . K-Pop stars BTS were the top artist of the year .
