Mundial Montréal Returning in November 2022 ; Artist Applications Now Open

BreakOut West Wraps Up 5 Days of Online Education & Opportunities ; Looks Ahead to Calgary
The 19th annual BreakOut West , which was also its second virtual “ Home Edition ,” wrapped up on Feb . 6th after five days of conference sessions and celebration of the talent coming out of the western Canadian music industry . While originally slated to take place in-person in Winnipeg , BreakOut West moved the February events online due to the ongoing circumstances around COVID-19 . Home Edition 2 once again brought attendees from across the globe into an immersive online experience , where artists and industry professionals were given the opportunity to expand their careers through panel discussions , networking events , and meetings with mentors . In total , over 460 people attended the events , with delegates joining in from 12 different countries , all sharing their valuable insight . 85 speakers were engaged across 28 panels and over 300 one-on-one meetings , while attendees were able to take part in 13 meetup events to establish business opportunities . Music discovery was celebrated , with 51 Highlight Artists being featured throughout the event , coming from all across western Canada , eastern Canadian neighbours , and overseas .
The conference program featured conversations exploring the future of livestreaming , adjusting back to live , decolonizing the music practice , developing Indigenous-owned industry companies , micro video , the importance of public radio in breaking artists , and more . Highlighted with a keynote by manager Mauricio Ruiz ( Jessie Reyez ), the event delivered tangible takeaways to support artists and industry , and navigate the current and future state of the Canadian music industry .
Looking ahead now to the fall of 2022 , Break- Out West will be heading to Calgary to celebrate its 20 th year , in-person once again . Venues throughout Calgary ’ s downtown core and in the Music Mile will welcome musicians from across western Canada and internationally , with the Marriott Downtown being the host hotel . Mundial Montreal is North America ’ s largest industry showcase that is completely dedicated to world music .
With this announcement , Mundial Montréal has put out the call for artist showcase applications for the 2022 edition . Artists interested in being part of the Mundial Montréal program are invited to respond to the call for applications , presented by the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture . They have until March 15 , 2022 , to submit their application .
Mundial Montréal says it ’ s known for its boutique format , a developed network of presenters , well-curated programming , as well as special attention offered to participants and results .

ECMA Music & Industry Conference Heading to Fredericton in May

The ECMA Music and Industry Conference will return from May 4-8 , 2022 , in Fredericton , NB . The 2022 conference has the theme of “ our music means business ;” it is gearing up to be the East Coast Music Association ’ s first in-person conference in two years , but it will continue to offer online programming with a hybrid model .
Organizers are promising that the 2022 ECMA conference “ will have something for everyone ,” whether it be artists or professionals who are new to the music industry , or seasoned musicians and representatives . The ECMA will continue to offer its anchor programs such as the Music in Motion SYNC Summit and its partnership with Music Managers Forum with the Music Managers Mentorship Program . New opportunities this year will include a follow-up from the Breaking Down Racial Barriers series , which premiered at last year ’ s conference and concluded at Nova Scotia Music Week , and will be paired with a BDRB mentorship program . ECMA will be increasing its francophone offerings with more sessions this year .
Attendees can also expect a deep dive into discussions around the international market post-pandemic , and an engaging keynote . Those heading to Fredericton will have many in-person opportunities for mentorship , networking , and training . A number of sessions will be available online ; there are a lot of sessions yet to be announced , but a few sessions are up and available for registration , including the Music Supervision Crash Course , which will take participants through the basics of music supervision and into the mind of a music supervisor .
