The multi-year partnership agreement between the CMRRA and TikTok is for the collection of digital mechanical royalties in Canada . This means that music publishers and self-published songwriters who own music copyrights to songs that are streaming in Canada are eligible to collect royalties . The licensing agreement sets up a forward-looking partnership and also accounts for TikTok ’ s past use of songs on the platform .

Music Nova Scotia Music Nova Scotia has announcement significant changes to its Artist Development funding program to make it more useful to artists .
Previously , Artist 1 AD funding offered an annual grant of $ 3,000 . This went toward one year of artist development activities including : sound recording , touring and showcasing , video production , marketing , and promotion . Over the years , Music Nova Scotia says that feedback from applicants showed that this can be limiting . If an artist applied and wasn ’ t successful , they missed out on other project opportunities throughout the year . Music Nova Scotia has removed the one-size-fits-all model of the Artist Development program and created three levels of funding .
Now , Artist 1 level applicants are invited to choose their funding stream from these options , allowing for more opportunities :
Artist 1 Recording : up to $ 1,500 per applicant , depending on eligible expenses . Deadlines are March 15 , and Sept . 15 .
Artist 1 Marketing : up to $ 1,500 per applicant , depending on eligible expenses . Deadlines are March 15 , June 15 , Sept . 15 , and Dec . 15 .
Artist 1 Tour Support : up to $ 1,500 per applicant , depending on eligible expenses . Deadlines March 15 , June 15 , Sept . 15 , and Dec . 15 .
Applications are now open . Artists who have already applied for the old Artist Development program and have not heard from the Investment Program Officer should email darryl @ musicnovascotia . ca .
