The AFC The AFC helps Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health , dignity , and ability to work through its Emergency Financial Aid program . Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic , hundreds of industry members have turned to The AFC for help to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table . During this challenging time , The AFC has responded to the need in the community with $ 1.4 million ( and counting ) in emergency financial aid and other crucial support programs and services . All its programs are focused on supporting the health and wellbeing of arts and entertainment professionals working in all aspects of film and TV , music , theatre , and dance .
You are eligible to apply if you have : earned more than half your income in the Canadian entertainment industry over the past three years ; earned the majority of your income from the Canadian entertainment industry , if you are over 65 ; experienced an unforeseeable emergency that has led to a financial crisis ; and made reasonable efforts to find other means of income or support .
In 2016 , the organization previously known as the Actors ’ Fund of Canada became The AFC . This change allowed it to expand its services to a wider range of Canadian entertainment professionals .

Women in Music Canada Women in Music Canada is inviting the hundreds of women and underrepresented gender identity artists and industry professionals across Canada to register for its new , official Women in Music Canada Directory . The aim is for the directory to be a valuable resource not only to identify and connect with other women and underrepresented gender identity professionals across our country , but also a great way to expand one ’ s professional network and gain more career opportunities .
Women in Music Canada is a registered non-profit organization and one of the largest music industry associations in Canada . It ’ s dedicated to fostering gender equality in the music industry through the support and advancement of femaleidentifying professionals and creatives at every stage of their career . The goal is to strengthen the social-economic balance of the music industry by providing professional development , support , and resources for the community .

Western Canadian Music Alliance The Western Canadian Music Alliance will be holding a second BreakOut West in 2022 . This edition of the music festival and conference will be held in Calgary from Sept . 28 to Oct . 2 , 2022 . The 19 th annual BreakOut West was held online from Feb . 2-6 , 2022 , after being previously scheduled for the fall of 2021 and moved due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 .
“ As a past president with BreakOut West and now working with Alberta Music as interim executive director , I couldn ’ t be more excited to have the event coming to Calgary ,” says Christine Rogerson . “ Following the tough years our industry has seen recently , we are keen to enliven the music community in Calgary , bringing original , live music safely to venues and fans .”
In partnership with Tourism Calgary , the Province of Alberta , and the National Music Centre , BreakOut West will return to the city after having previously celebrated

CIMA The Canadian Independent Music Association ( CIMA ) will now be featuring news from its member companies in its weekly newsletter . CMRRA Thanks to an agreement between the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency ( CMRRA ) and social media giant TikTok , music publishers and self-published songwriters who own music copyrights to songs that are streaming on TikTok are now eligible to collect from this line of business for current and past use of songs on the platform .
