19 th . Submissions can be made by the artist / industry professional themselves or they can be submitted on their behalf . It is recommended that nominees , and those submitting , be a member of one of the western Canadian music industry associations but is not required ( MIA members receive a discount on their submissions ). The nominee must have been born in either Manitoba , Saskatchewan , Alberta , British Columbia , Yukon , or NWT and must have lived in one of those provinces or territories for six consecutive months between Jan . 1 , 2020 and March 19 , 2021 . Alternatively , the nominee must have maintained a residence in those provinces / territories during that eligibility period .

Music BC The second intake of applications for Music BC ’ s SoundON program opens on April 26 , 2021 . SoundON is a province-wide program that aims to help bring British Columbia ’ s music community together . Music BC says it will provide a meaningful outlet of support for the industry – allowing the province ’ s vibrant music culture to continue working and celebrating in a safe way .
The applicant must be a presenter / organizer of live music who fits into one of the following categories : Limited companies , partnerships , or sole proprietorships ; incorporated Canadian not-forprofit organizations ; or individual applicants .
If the application is awarded funding , Music BC works with the applicant to publish their show into the SoundON event lineup featured on SoundON . ca . The event will be livestreamed through You- Tube , Twitch , Facebook , or other broadcast platforms , and Music BC will amplify the production through SoundON . ca , its partners , and on social media .

SaskMusic Via an online event on Jan . 24 th , SaskMusic announced the winners of the 2020 Saskatchewan Music Awards . Performers for the virtual event - ADEOLUWA , Last Birds , Belle Plaine , and The North Sound – were filmed for the SMA show in special closed-door performances leading up the event , with acceptance speeches from the winners collected as close to “ show time ” as possible .
Tenille Arts secured three awards for Single , Album , and Country Artist of the Year . Arts recently was named one of CMT ’ s “ Next Women of Country 2021 ,” with “ Somebody Like That ” currently sitting at number 15 on the Billboard U . S . Country
MusicNL On Feb . 7 , 2021 , the winners of the 2020 MusicNL Awards were revealed . Among the winners were Rube & Rake , who were tied for the most nominations with six , and they won one award for Folk / Roots Artist of the Year . As well , The Heavy Horses , who also had six nominations , won for Music Video of the Year . Other winners included Rum Ragged for Fans ’ Choice and their record The Thing About Fish for Album of the Year , Adam Baxter for Alternative Artist of the Year , Justin Fancy for Rising Star and Country Artist of the Year , Rachel Cousins for Pop Artist of the Year , and Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts for Group of the Year .

Music PEI The next submission deadline for the Music PEI Investment Program is April 30 , 2021 .
All prospective applicants should carefully read through the various funding guidelines and application procedures for these initiatives and programs in order to have a good understanding of how the various programs and applications work and to see if they meet eligibility criteria . An independent jury meets two to three weeks after deadline . Decisions are made in approximately four to six weeks and successful applicants will be notified by email .
