HOT GEAR Propellerhead Complex-1 Modular Synth Rack Extension for Reason Propellerhead Software has released Complex-1, a modular synthesizer plug-in for Reason. Drawing from several schools of modular synth aesthetics, Complex-1 is designed to bring the quirks, freedom, and sonic depth of modular synthesis to the Reason Rack. It boasts a four-times oversampled synthesis engine, a freely routable signal, and modulation path. There are more than 150 patches included and, unlike a hardware modular synthesizer, nothing can break and there’s an undo button. The selection of modules in Complex-1 brings a mix of modular synth ideologies to the Reason Rack. The Complex Oscillator, Low Pass Gates, and Shaper modules build on the works of Don Buchla (or West Coast style) and the regular Oscillator and ladder design Filter module are derived more from the Bob Moog school of synth design. Users can combine them in any way and craft their own unique synth sounds. For more information, contact Hal Leon- ard: 414-774-3630, FAX 414-774-3259, [email protected], www.halleonard.com. Fender Flea Jazz Bass Active Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) has released the Flea Jazz Bass Active, marking Fender’s sec- ond collaboration with the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist. This bass was designed to complement Flea’s vintage-style recording bass: a Shell Pink Flea Jazz Bass Fender reproduced with him in 2016. The brainchild of Flea and Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Jason Smith, the new active model is “hyper-modern” and represents Flea’s energetic on- stage presence and style. This U.S.-made, stage- ready active Jazz Bass features an offset alder body offered in two finishes: satin Inca silver and satin shell pink. The model has a smooth and fast satin polyurethane neck finish with a matching headstock and a 22-fret “C”-shaped maple neck, 12-16-in. radius maple fingerboard, and a 1.6-in. wide nut. The model is completed by a high-output humbucker with an Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp. For more information, contact FMIC: 480-596-9690, www.fender.com. 66 CANADIAN MUSICIAN
