SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN Submissions Open for CMW Startup Launch Pad BreakOut West Artist Submissions Now Open Showcase submissions are now being accepted for the 2018 BreakOut West Festival, which is ARLO MAVERICK AT BREAKOUT WEST taking place from Oct. 10-14 in Kelowna, BC. Submissions close on March 21, 2018. All showcase artists must be residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, and/or the Northwest Territories, for at least six months between Jan. 1, 2017 and March 21, 2018. In the case of groups, 50 per cent of the members must meet the residency requirement. BreakOut West gives artists the opportunity to showcase in front of over 3,000 music fans and more than 500 national and international music industry professionals, including music supervisors, managers, festival buyers, agents, publicists, social marketing experts, and more. Submissions are now being accepted for Canadian Music Week’s Startup Launch Pad, a pitch competition for new businesses that are based in or connected to the music in- dustry. The deadline for submissions is March 19, 2018. The competition will take place during this year’s CMW conference on May 9 th at the Sheraton Centre Hotel. The competition will offer startups an opportunity for exposure and investment, as well as advice from top industry professionals. Entries Open for It’s Your Shot Songwriting & Artist Development Competition Slaight Music has announced the launch of the It’s Your Shot songwriting and artist development competition. The contest, which is open to all musical genres, encourag- es Canadian artists to submit a song and/or video to ItsYourShot.ca for a chance to win a grand prize valued at $100,000 in total. The winning artist this year will receive recording, distribution, radio promotion, publicity, and marketing support via Hidden Pony/Universal Music Canada, along with a professionally produced photo shoot, artist biography, and two music videos. Additionally, the winner will receive business mentoring, brand development including website and social media work, and opportunities to perform live in 2018, including a show at Indie Week Canada in November 2018.
