Nominees Revealed for 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards The Western Canadian Music Alliance has announced the nominees for the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards . The awards are their celebrating their 20 th anniversary this year , along with BreakOut West , which heads back to Calgary in the fall for the annual conference and showcase festival .
The WCMAs include artists from British Columbia , Alberta , Saskatchewan , Manitoba , Northwest Territories , and Yukon . Voting is done by members of western provincial and territorial music industry association

Up for BreakOut Artist of the Year are : Boy Golden , Haley Blais , Kyle McKearney , Leith Ross , and The Garrys . Snotty Nose Rez Kids lead all artists with three nominations for Rap / Hip-Hop Group of the Year , Indigenous Artist of the Year , and Recording of the Year .

Music Publishers Canada & Music Canada Launch New Songwriting & Music Publishing Award Music Publishers Canada and Music Canada have launched the new Songwriting and Music Publishing Award . The award celebrates songwriters ’ and music publishers ’ contributions to officially certified Canadian Gold and Platinum recordings .
The first award was presented in May during Juno Week to Serena Ryder in recognition of her songwriting contributions to her platinum-certified song “ Weak in The Knees .” The award was presented by ArtHaus Music and Music Publishers Canada ahead of Ryder ’ s performance at the Juno Songwriters ’ Circle .

As well , Soran , and his music publisher , Éditorial Avenue , were recognized with a plaque in a virtual presentation for their contributions to Johnny Orlando ’ s “ Everybody Wants You ,” a certified gold single .
Music Publishers Canada members who hold publishing rights to songs contained in a gold / platinum-certified recording are now eligible to order the new award plaque for themselves , their sub-publishing partners , as well as the credited songwriters who they represent in Canada .

Submissions for 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards Open
Submissions are now open for the 18 th edition of the Canadian Folk Music Awards . The 2023 CFMAs will take place March 30 to April 2 , 2023 , in Vancouver , BC , celebrating Canada ’ s folk community and 2023 nominees and the category recipients .
Due to the Covid-19 situation , the CFMAs have decided for this year to again reduce the submission fees for 2023 . Instead of $ 70 for the first category submission and $ 60 for each subsequent category , pricing will be $ 55 per category until the submission deadline of July 15 , 2022 .
Established by Canada ’ s burgeoning and internationally recognized folk music community , the awards currently boast 19 categories plus the Unsung Hero Award . Nominees are chosen for each category . A two-stage jury process by more than 100 jurors located across Canada representing all official provinces , territories , and languages determine the official recipients in each category .

Randall Prescott & George Fox to be Inducted into Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame The Canadian Country Music Association has announced its 2022 Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees , which are Randall Prescott ( Stan Klees Builder ) and George Fox ( Artist ). Both will be honoured in a private ceremony this September during Country Music Week 2022 .
A 16-time CCMA Award winner , Randall Prescott is one of Canada ’ s most awarded producers . Nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999 , Prescott was a member of the multi-award-winning Family Brown and Prescott-Brown , taking home three Juno Awards . He produced the 1988 Olympic version of “ O Canada ,” which was the first time utilizing a First Nations language . Prescott took home the Canadian Music Publisher Award in 1990 , and has produced artists such as Charlie Major , Patricia Conroy , Colleen Peterson , and Tom Jackson and performed at The Grand Ole Opry with his family and Terri Clark in 2018 .
Hailing from Cochrane , AB , George Fox began his music career in 1988 when his live show recordings found their way into the hands of a Warner Music Canada representative . Releasing his debut single , “ Angelina ,” to critical acclaim that year , Fox secured a top-10 debut and watched his career take off . One short year later , Fox took home the CCMA Award title of Male Artist of the Year ( 1989 ), which he then won for four consecutive years . Fox ’ s excellence was also celebrated by the Juno Awards with him being named Country Male Vocalist of the Year for three consecutive years ( 1990-1993 ).
Fox has released 10 albums , hosted the CCMA Awards for multiple years ( 1991- 1994 ) and appeared in countless television specials alongside celebrated artists such as Terri Clark , Rita McNeil and Anne Murray , Garth Brooks , and Shania Twain .
