Music Nova Scotia After significant consultation with the Music Nova Scotia membership and the organization ’ s Board of Directors , Music Nova Scotia has released the 2022 edition of the Music Nova Scotia Awards Manual . The association thanks the hundreds of people who shared their experiences and thoughts about the MNS Awards in order to help modernize the event and help ensure it keeps artists and industry at the heart of the celebrations .
Nova Scotia Music Week ( NSMW ) celebrated its 25th anniversary in June . “ This anniversary allowed Music Nova Scotia the opportunity to reflect on the true value of the MNS Awards : celebrating and supporting the growth of emerging and established Nova Scotia artists . Music Nova Scotia opened award nominations on June 22 nd .
In January 2022 , MNS launched an awards survey to get feedback from the membership and general community on the MNS Awards . MNS sought more information on how the community saw the process for being nominated , the impact of the awards , and other relevant information . The feedback was processed by MNS staff and the MNS Board ’ s programming committee when putting together the slate of MNS Awards for 2022 .
SOCAN The Black Canadian Music Awards is accepting submissions until Oct . 15 , 2022 . The Black Canadian Music Awards is made possible through a joint partnership with SiriusXM Canada and SOCAN Foundation . This award is designed to celebrate extraordinary Black music creators that are Canadian .
Submissions to the talent competition can be from all genres of music , such as folk , blues , rock , hip-hop , R & B , etc . Candidates must be Canadian citizens , identify as Black , and the original creators of the musical submission are eligible to apply to the talent competition . In the case a collective use for the award , all music creators must meet the eligibility criteria .
Up to five awards valued at up to $ 5,000 each will be granted to the finalists . All submissions will be reviewed by a jury composed of Black artists / industry leaders in the Canadian music industry .
The competition is open to music creators who are of Black descent . If the applicant is a collective / band , all members must meet the eligibility criteria . Candidates must be Canadian and SOCAN members or Canadians who are not members of any performing rights organization . Submissions must be original and composed within two years of the application deadline . Arrangements are not eligible . The applicants must submit musical examples in which they have contributed towards the creation of the work meaningfully and have a share of ownership in the work . SOCAN and SOCAN Foundation board members and employees and jury members of the Black Canadian Music Awards are not eligible .
Music PEI Music PEI will be presenting a showcase at Americana UK , which is taking place in Hackney , London , U . K . from Jan . 23-26 , 2023 . The AMA-UK is a professional trade association representing and advocating for the voice of American Roots music in the U . K . Next year will represent the eighth year of the conference that has featured artists like Robert Plant , Graham Nash , Rhiannon Giddens , and more . PEI artists Lennie Gallant , Catherine MacLellan , Irish Mythen , and more were showcased in 2019 . Americana UK is the premier conference of this genre in the U . K . and Europe attracting festival and venue programmers , promoters , media , agents , labels , and other industry professionals for a threeday music conference .
Each successful artist will receive a travel allowance of $ 1,000 ( solo ) or $ 1,500 ( band ), a 20-minute showcase with full production , one full delegate pass to attend the conference , and one free award show ticket , wristbands to the festival both nights for all band members , and invitations to networking receptions .
Each artist is responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses exceeding the allotted travel allowance . This opportunity is open to all PEI-based exporting and export-ready artists in the Americana genre of music . The deadline to submit is Aug . 5 , 2022 , by 5 p . m . AT .
Music BC Music BC is accepting Artist and Business Travel Grant applications for both domestic and international destinations , including showcase , touring and business travel . The next application window is July 28 to Sept . 9 , 2022 . Music BC Artist will not be accepting applications outside of this window .
Applications will be reviewed and moderated by a jury of BC industry professionals , with notifications to applicants on the status of their requested awards being circulated within four to six weeks from deadline . Music BC ’ s Travel Grants help B . C . -based artists participating in touring and showcasing initiatives , and B .
