Wendake , QC-based , First Nations singer and songwriter ANYMA is gearing up to release her debut EP in the fall of 2021 and if its leadoff single , “ If God Had A Boat ,” is any indication , we ’ re in for a treat from a captivating artist . While her debut single in 2020 , “ Circus ,” showed great promise , offering a propulsive and catchy pop tune , “ If God Had A Boat ” is a great leap forward thanks to the aching vocals , poignant storytelling , and richlyorchestrated instrumentation and production .
The official video for “ If God Had A Boat ,” too , reveals ANYMA to be an artist with a rare kind of entrancing presence . A fully-rounded artist who also works as a professional dancer , it ’ s clear the songs are just one of part the artistic package she envisions . It ’ s little wonder , as she comes from a family of artists , with her mother being a dancer and choreographer and her father a musician , producer , and the cultural chief of their community . In ANYMA , we have a fully-formed young artist you should be closely watching .
Renée Landry is being hailed as powerhouse of Northern Ontario soul . Coming from Sault Ste . Marie , ON , and now based in Ottawa , she is developing a reputation for enthralling audiences with her commanding stage presence and fierce vocal delivery , as she weaves her confessional stories of love gone wrong with 1990s pop-soul sensibilities .
Landry ’ s latest single “ Best Wishes ” marks her return after almost two years . Its dark pop / soul sound is filled with electronic and synth elements and showcases a different side of Landry ’ s style and production . Featuring some of her most honest songwriting to date , “ Best Wishes ” gives a conversely aching and angry final goodbye to a deceitful lover . The production is lusher and serves to add more heft to Landry ’ s considerable vocal power . We definitely hope there ’ s more to come like this tune !

BRADEN LAM
What : Folk-Pop Where : Halifax , NS Visit : www . bradenlam . com
Blending authentic songwriting with modern indie rock and pop flare , the song “ Saturday Is Seven ” from Braden Lam ’ s latest EP , Inside Four Walls , is offering up hooks for days . Listening to that single , it ’ s not hard to envision him sharing a bill with Ed Sheeran or Shawn Mendes . There is real depth in Lam ’ s songwriting , as songs like the folky “ I Won ’ t Think Twice ” and “ Forest Fire ” and the soothing “ Coffee Breath ” reveal a journey through the growth and aspirations of adolescence and young adulthood .
From a look at his recent background and the work he ’ s putting in , it ’ s clear that Lam is on the cusp of big things . He and his band ( formerly called Driftwood People ) were constantly touring the country pre-pandemic , and he received a SOCAN Foundation Award for Young Canadian Songwriters . As well , Halifax ’ s beloved alt-weekly The Coast named Driftwood People as the city ’ s Best New Artist of 2019 . Music Nova Scotia also nominated him for Folk Recording of the Year in 2019 , and Lam ’ s music has also been picked up by a number of Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists .
