IK Multimedia SampleTron 2 Tape-Based Sampling Instruments
IK Multimedia has released SampleTron 2 , which offers a comprehensive collection of vintage tape-based sampling instruments and the company ’ s tape-modeling technology . SampleTron 2 combines the sound engine of IK ’ s SampleTank 4 with its tape modeling technology to recreate the distinctive , ultra-vibey sounds of tape-based samplers from the ‘ 60s and ‘ 70s , along with quirky early digital sample players and vocoders .
This collection features deep sampling of vintage Mellotron and Chamberlin tapes , a collection of new acoustic “ non-Tron ” sounds with tape processing , and now enables users to load their own samples and create modern audiophile Tron sounds that are uniquely theirs . SampleTron 2 comes with a library of over 400 “ tracks ” that users can load into any preset – up to three at once – and then individually process with IK ’ s tape modeling DSP for tone-shaping flexibility .

Latin Percussion Tambo-Rings & Tambo-Stick
Latin Percussion ( LP ) has launched two new percussive accessories : the Tambo-Rings and Tambo-Stick .
With the Tambo-Rings , drummers and percussionists can add subtle jingle to their sonic palette . Available in two sizes , the rings are finished in a choice of black sand or stainless steel and jingles come in either brass or galvanized steel . The smaller 6-in . Tambo-Ring has five pairs of jingles , and when laid over hi-hats or cymbals , it offers a sizzle effect that is dry and raw . The larger 14-in . Tambo-Ring features 15 pairs of jingles and adds another dynamic to grooves when used on hi-hats , cymbals , snares , toms , and timbales .
Inspired and developed with Stanton Moore , the Tambo-Stick offers a different sound to a beatmaker ’ s grooves . The well-balanced , 14-in . solid maple stick has a natural satin finish and two pairs of steel jingles . The larger diameter front end provides added weight to enhance the instrument ’ s balance , improve durability , and aid articulation . The tapered back fits comfortably in the hand while the central , pyrolyzed LP logo acts as a guide for placing the jingles in the best alignment when played .

Gibson Peter Frampton “ Phenix ” Les Paul Custom Guitar
Gibson Custom Shop has released the Peter Frampton “ Phenix ” Les Paul Custom VOS guitar .
Frampton ’ s Les Paul Custom , aka “ Phenix ”, is the iconic guitar that is both heard on and graced the cover of the classic 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive ! The guitar was long thought to be lost in a cargo plane crash in 1980 , but it somehow survived the crash , and 31 years later it was returned to Frampton and nicknamed the “ Phenix .”
Now , the Gibson Custom Shop has teamed with Frampton to recreate the Les Paul Custom VOS , which has all of the Les Paul Custom cosmetic appointments in place , including a weight-relieved , ultra-lightweight mahogany body , gold hardware and Grover tuners , Schaller Strap Locks , and three open-coil Custom humbuckers . The Phenix ’ s special VOS finish gives the guitar the look of the vintage original , minus the dings and scars .
The Phenix features custom wiring , a three-way toggle switch controls the neck and bridge pickups , and they share a volume and tone control . The second set of volume and controls are connected to the middle pickup , and it can be used with either ( or both ) of the other pickups and it can be used by itself when the other pickups are toned down .
