Canada ’ s Music Incubator Canada ’ s Music Incubator ( CMI ) has launched the AE West program , which is a condensed version of its cornerstone Artist Entrepreneur program . The new program serves western and northern-based artists , and is delivered in partnership with The National Music Centre at Studio Bell in Calgary .
The next session is happening in November 2021 , when artists will spend five weeks working with CMI at Studio Bell to expand their music industry knowledge , push their creative skills , and develop process-based approaches to ease the challenge of self-management . Artists will also meet numerous industry professionals operating in all areas from Toronto , Alberta , and British Columbia .

Canadian Live Music Association The Canadian Live Music Association has partnered with NVision Insight Group to offer the Indigenous cultural awareness certificate program at a discounted rate to the live music industry . This program is available on-demand and can be completed at the participant ’ s own pace . The full course takes approximately four to five hours to complete with a certificate provided upon successful completion .
The program consists of five online modules that focus on the First Nations , Inuit , and Métis peoples of Canada , the history of Indigenous peoples , and their relationship with European settlers , the British Crown , and the Dominion of Canada . The modules will demystify some of the legal issues regarding the Indian Act , historical and modern treaties , recent rulings by the Supreme Court of Canada , and what they mean in practical terms . Finally , this course will provide some context to better understand the importance of cultural traditions and values of Indigenous peoples and ways to strengthen relationships with Indigenous peoples .

Music Nova Scotia After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19 , Nova Scotia Music Week ( NSMW ) is heading back to Truro from Nov . 4-7 for the
2021 edition of the event . The festival will feature over 100 Nova Scotian artists across multiple stages throughout Truro .
At this time , Music Nova Scotia is planning to host NSMW in person in Truro . “ The health and safety of festival artists , delegates , crew , audiences , and the host city community is of utmost priority . While the goal is to have artists back on stage this fall to help support the recovery of our sector and careers of Nova Scotian talent , NSMW will ensure it follows all public safety measures mandated by the Provincial Health Authority to reduce the spread of COVID-19 ,” the association says . Artists who are selected to perform will have a showcasing opportunity this fall , preferably in person , but plans exist for a hybrid and / or digital event should the need arise .
In total , more than 1,000 musicians and music industry professionals are expected to attend NSMW . As always , it ’ ll showcase talent , provide education , facilitate connections , and celebrate Nova Scotian culture and hospitality .

Music PEI Music PEI has launched its new Digital Performance Content Creation Fund ( DPCF ). With the support of Innovation PEI , Music PEI is creating the $ 75,000 fund to create digital live performance content to be used for showcase and online performance opportunities .
The DPCF will provide up to $ 1,500 to eligible artists . Funds will be available until they are depleted , so there is no fixed deadline for applications . The DPCF will fund 100 % of expenses up to a maximum of $ 1,500 , which are limited to costs to create a live performance video . Music PEI is committed to promoting all forms of diversity and encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and genres who meet the eligibility criteria . Applications will be assessed by a committee , which will consider the proposal , the opportunity presented , and the artist ’ s ability to execute .

TYLER MESSICK AT NOVA SCOTIA MUSIC WEEK
Alberta Music After a hiatus in 2020 because of the pandemic , Project WILD is returning in 2021 for its final year . Administered by Alberta Music and funded through WILD 953 , Project WILD is part of a seven-year , $ 4.9 million program , designed to kick-start the international music careers of three emerging Alberta artists annually , and give a boost to all Top 12 finalists selected by industry jury . Artist submissions are open until July 14th at 12 p . m . MT .
Back for its final year , Project WILD is an artist development program designed to educate , promote , develop , and launch the careers of Alberta ’ s emerging country and roots artists . Following a jury deliberation of the entries , the top-12 finalists of the program will be selected based on musicianship , vocal performance , songwriting ability , and live performance . Although the program will look different this year , participating Albertan artists will each receive a $ 5,000 development grant and participate in Project WILD ’ s music industry boot camp – an intense one-week workshop to hone their skills in performance , songwriting , marketing , media strategy , music business , music accounting , tour strategy , and social media .
