HOT GEAR Waldorf Iridium Synthesizer Waldorf Music has introduced the Iridium Synthesizer, which borrows its functionality, tonality, and traits from the flagship Quantum Synthesizer released in 2018, but with the added benefit of a compact form factor. Following in the Quantum Synthesizer’s footsteps, the Iridium Synthesizer features a large high-resolution, multitouch, haptic display working in harmony with a control panel, positioning all functions for efficient operation. Noticeably new to the Iridium is its integrated 4 x 4 pad matrix, used to call up sequences, chords, scales, and arpeggios. The Iridium still shares the same selectable sound generation processes per oscillator (OSC 1, OSC 2, and OSC 3). As such, it can convincingly and comprehensively reproduce the sound spectra of the following five synthesis types: Wavetable, Waveform, Particle, Resonator, and Kernels. Eventide Crystals Plug-In Eventide has released its Crystals plug-in, combining twin reverse pitch shifters with reverse delays and reverb. The plug-in is available for Mac, PC, and iOS. This H3000 Harmonizer effect can be used to create climbing and cascading pitched delays or unique-sounding reverbs. It features two reverse granular delays that can be manipulated by length and pitch. Crystals is best at adding life to synths, guitar, and vocals, but is also capable of largesounding reverbs. Users can tweak the pitches a full octave down for a quick “drunk vocal” sound or fit snares in the mix by pitch-shifting down an octave. Users could set really long delay times (up to four seconds per voice) with high feedback to use it as an ambient looper. The effect can be made musical by micro-pitching each voice around the 4th (500 cents), 5th (700 cents), or octave (1200 cents).
