Cloud Cloudlifter Zi DI & Mic Activator
Cloud Microphones is now shipping the Cloudlifter Zi vari-Z
instrument DI and microphone activator, bringing its Cloudlift-
er technology to guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, and others.
The CL-Zi’s variable impedance “Z” knob and high-pass filter
work in tandem to create tone shaping through the manipula-
tion of impedance loading. This allows users to customize their
tone before the gain stage of their signal path by turning the
“Z” knob until it sounds right.
The CL-Zi has a three-position gain switch allowing for
minimum gain, more gain, or the maximum gain available (up
to approx. +25dB for microphones or 12dB for instruments),

Hal Leonard Audio Made Easy: Or How
to Be a Sound Engineer Without Really
Trying, 5 th Edition
Hal Leonard has released the fifth edition of Ira White’s
Audio Made Easy: Or How to Be a Sound Engineer Without
Really Trying.
First published in 1997, this book is a concise and compre-
hensive guide to audio and recording equipment and tech-
niques. It provides practical information on how professional
audio equipment works and how readers can best employ it.
Each edition is updated to reflect and cover changes in audio
technology, but White’s goal continues to be to provide an
easy-to-understand guide that is free of jargon and “filler,” and
also feature his wry humour that makes mandatory minutiae
more tolerable.
