Prestige Guitars Devin Townsend Empath
Signature Acoustic
Product News
Prestige Guitars has introduced the Devin
Townsend Empath signature acoustic, designed
in close collaboration with the revered Canadi-
an guitarist.
The Empath Acoustic is a hand-built dread-
nought cutaway guitar, featuring a torrefied
Adirondack spruce top, Indian rosewood back and
sides, and 3A-grade flame maple bevels on the arm
rest, back rest, and cutaway.
Following an all-organic build, each Empath
guitar comes complete with a hand-carved ma-
hogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone
nut and saddle, and a natural satin finish. This
combination results in a rich and detailed sound,
with crisp overtones and loud sonic definition.
A Fishman Matrix Infinity VT pickup system
is loaded onboard for amplification.
The complete production run is
limited to 100 guitars worldwide,
and each guitar includes an individu-
alized, numbered, and hand-written
autographed letter from Townsend
himself, hidden inside the sound-
hole.

Radial HDI DI Box
Radial Engineering has introduced its latest flagship DI box, the HDI.
It features three unique front panel knobs (Color, Level, and Presence)
and additional tone-shaping switches designed to achieve an improved
high-definition audio signal in less time and with less effort.
The Color control integrates a custom-designed oversized Jensen
transformer made specifically for the HDI, along with a unique distortion
circuit. The result is a high-quality range of tones, from ultra-clean to
“gutsy” harmonic distortion. A selectable three-position OPTO switch
enables optimization of gain staging when the HDI is set to the Clean
channel mode. The OPTO compressor allows for flexibility in gain stag-
ing control during situations with overly dynamic players. An LED light
gets brighter as more gain reduction is applied for reference.
The HDI’s Level control drives the distortion qualities of the unit
similar to the way an amplifier’s input stage is driven. Turning the knob
clockwise from its nominal setting at 12-o’clock increases authentic
distortion tonality, while turning counter-clockwise increases clean to
ultra-clean tonal qualities. The Presence knob works in conjunction with
the Color control, boosting the unit’s clean and distortion tonal qualities
based on the Color knob’s setting.
