When that was completed, we moved onto the
next area: the original, formal living room, and
transformed that into a den. Again, as with the
kitchen/dining areas, the room functionality was
paramount, so we designed a writing desk that was
utilized as an office space. Here, amid beautiful
surroundings, the tasks of bill paying, emailing and
organizing a family’s complicated life became much
more pleasurable. We created a cozy seating area,
not just for comfort, but also with an eye towards
incorporating it with the adjacent family room. Our
hope was that the added cohesion would allow these
two rooms to connect as one fluid space. Helping
to achieve that was the design of the two rooms’
ceilings, which are reflected from one room to the
other. Additionally, the fabrics and colour palettes
were thoughtfully considered and intertwined.
Again, the goal always was to enhance the continuity
throughout the spaces.
Next on our renovation list: a powder room. The
homeowners’ desire to accommodate their guests’
needs was fulfilled by adding this lovely, small room
to the main level. Now, guests have an attractive
restroom and needn’t walk through the garage access
hall to find it.
