Ali Gibson's
European
spa
the project
For the master suite, the homeowners, who
travel extensively in Europe, wanted to recreate
the mood of the luxurious spa bathrooms they
had enjoyed in many of the boutique hotels
they had visited. The space had to be modern,
minimal, flooded with light and have a close
connection with nature.
my challenge
The design challenge was to
introduce natural light into the narrow
house with the help of only one small
window in the bathroom.
my solution
“Clean lines and simplicity were the
keys to pulling this look together.”
As part of the overall renovation,
giant sliding glass doors were installed
on one outside wall of the master
bedroom. Continuing the theme, a
glass wall separates the bathroom
from the bedroom allowing daylight to
flood in. A skylight above the soaker
tub draws in more natural light and
affords a glimpse of nature.
The freestanding soaker tub was
an essential requirement for the
bathroom while marble and glass
were the main materials used in this
space. A soothing palette of white and
grey contribute to a spacious feeling
accentuated by the extensive use of
glass, mirror and marble.
