2 rule of
thirds
1 glass tables
Glass and/or mirror tables blend into a room’s background
giving the illusion of more space. A round antique mirror
and burnished-metal deco-style table was the perfect fit in
this glamorous space.
A coffee table’s length should
be two-thirds of the size of a
sofa. This small family home
required a perfectly sized
coffee table with storage.
It has a shelf for books and
magazines as well as drawers
f or knick- knacks.
3 how
high?
Your table and seating height
should be within four inches
from each other. In this living
room the mirror and polishednickel coffee table is the
perfect height for the sofa.
4
traffic
flow
Keep approximately eighteen
inches around an occasional
table for effective traffic
flow. In this formal space, the
table and furniture pieces are
spaced appropriately so that
people can walk comfortably
around the furniture.

5 two is better than one
Consider two smaller tables instead of one big table in
a large space. This living room was big enough for two
sofas and coffee tables. Each table features an upholstered
top, a shelf below as well as a spot for a decorative item in
the centre of the table.
